Amalie ‘Sveske’ Ourø (1994) She/her, Danish
Her work, mostly performative and site-specific, can be best described as art-anthropological and is inspired by her deep curiosity about humanity and reflections of the inner workings of our society. Through her work she actively engages with the audience through acts of play and subversion, inviting them to think critically about diverse societal urgencies within the field of ecology, sociology & urbanism — encouraging meaningful and sustainable change along the way.
Sveske is facilitator and coordinator of The Garden Department working intersecting ecology into art and design practices at the Rietveld Academie and Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam.

‘’Working from observations I get inspired by my environments and most of my work is situated and reflects specific spaces. My work has evolved as I have evolved – and moved and inhabited different spaces physically. This is also reflected through my gardening praxis, where one tunes into a slow and continuous act of mending to a living space. Gardening not only helps keep me balanced, but I believe I can see this approach in responding to my surroundings mirrored into my work. I grew up with this care as my grandparents were potato farmers and living by being in constant connection with nature. This was inherited by my mother who always kept a garden and now into me.’’
